Fountain of Time
"Time is nothing more than the order of events, and as such it is merely an abstract descriptive notion. This happened, then this, then this. It is discrete in that sense, yet infinite. There was always something that happened previously, and something will always happen after. It is not dimensional, it is not material, it is not spatial. Time is a measure of reality."
"Does God live outside of time?"
"Time is not a place to live inside or out of. God was. God is. God is to come. Therefore God's very being is the fountain of time. Eternal time. Endless happenings. All of us, you and I, had a beginning. A time before which we did not experience. And all of us will have a time after which we will not experience. But God? There is no moment in eternity backwards or forwards where He is not alive and well. 'Before Abraham was, I Am.'"
"Did God create time?"
"You misunderstand. Time is not a material or substance that it should be created. Time is a consequence of God's doing. If it had a beginning, then I suppose it began the very first time God did something. Whether or not there was such a time, I suppose only God knows for a fact. But for at least as long as He has been doing things, and for as long as He continues doing things, time passes on."
"And what if He stops doing?"
The old man chuckled. "Now there's a puzzle to put you to sleep at night."
